About Us

Ellevation is a mission-driven software company exclusively focused on the needs of English Language Learners and the professionals that serve them.

The number of ELL students across the country is rapidly increasing, and resources for educators are not keeping pace. Ellevation provides tools that help ELL professionals enhance instruction, improve collaboration, and "do more with less" by streamlining paperwork and compliance burdens.

Ellevation—previously called ESL Innovations—was started in 2006 by Carrie Hill, an ELL Coordinator in North Carolina. Carrie's inspiration for creating the company grew out of the frustration that so many ELL professionals experience: a lack of good information on student proficiency which made instructional differentiation difficult; very few analyses or reports that could support collaboration with general education teachers; and an overwhelming administrative burden which diverted significant time away from students. As with so many entrepreneurs, Carrie had a belief that there must be a better way to meet her duties as a coordinator and serve her students.

In 2011, Ellevation was formed and merged with ESL Innovations. Ellevation's co-founders, Teddy Rice and Jordan Meranus, are now working closely with Carrie and her team to build a suite of software tools to help manage ELL programs and improve student achievement. Our current product is a software platform that helps users organize their ESL student data, supplementing and enhancing the role of a district SIS, much as other district software applications do for other sub-populations. Ellevation enables the convenient generation of ELL Student Plans to support individualized student instruction; ELP Standards Reports to support the implementation of language standards in the mainstream classroom; and a suite of productivity tools that give educators much-needed time to focus on students. We currently serve over 120 school districts in 14 states, with over 100,000 students collectively served.

We are just getting started!

“From my perspective, the efficacy with which all LEP data has been collected and reported through ESL Reps has been invaluable. This program has significantly reduced the amount of time spent in the compilation of mandated state and federal reports. All required parental communications, English and Spanish, are produced on an individualized student basis."
