Strategies for identifying and supporting dually identified learners
This free guided learning toolkit is designed to support educators in effectively identifying and providing high-quality instruction for dually identified students—English learners (ELs) who receive special education services. Misidentification, whether EL students are under or over identified as having a learning disability, has lasting effects of the education they receive and their opportunities to be successful in their education journey and beyond. We've spoken to experts in the field and compiled a short list of resources that can offer insight into potential challenges and misconceptions as well as best-practices and processes to implement in order to create a more equitable learning environment for all students.
Our toolkit includes:
- Creating more accurate identification processes: Learn how to use the ELL critical data process to collect accurate information and insight before assessing ELs for special education services.
- Supporting ELs with Dyslexia: Understand common misconceptions about ELs with dyslexia and explore strategies to better support their literacy and language development.
- Collaboration Across Teams: Discover best practices for fostering strong collaboration between educators, specialists, and stakeholders to build accountability and ensure dually identified students receive the support they need.
- Leveraging Ellevation’s Tools: Explore how resources within Ellevation Platform and Ellevation Strategies can help educators access the right data and instructional strategies to improve support for ELs with disabilities.
